What is the Idaho Energy Code?

A set of codes pertaining to energy efficiency in residential and commercial structures.

The Idaho Energy Code is commited to providing consumers as well as building officials pertinent resources and training to make your home's or businesses as comfortable and energy efficient as possible.


Idaho Energy Code Circuit Rider Program

The Idaho Association of Building Officials (IDABO) announces a new Circuit Rider program that will focus on promoting energy codes in Idaho. This three-year pilot was launched on May 1, 2012 and is dedicated to educating all Idaho citizens and stakeholders on the practical value of energy codes.

To accomplish the program goals IDABO has hired David Freelove to take on the circuit rider responsibilities. Mr. Freelove most recently served as the Building Official for the City of Middleton. Prior to that he worked as a building inspector with Canyon County and has held a leadership position on the board of the Building Safety Professionals of Southwest Idaho, a chapter of IDABO. He holds ICC certifications in Building Plans Examiner, Residential Building Inspector and Residential Mechanical Inspector and is currently working towards his IECC residential certification.

The Circuit Rider will serve as the key resource and clearinghouse for Idaho energy code questions and answers, code interpretations and enforcement strategies. He will also assist local jurisdictions permitting departments, building officials and design and construction professionals by providing cost free energy code assistance through:
-- Technical support via email and telephone
-- On site education and training and technical assistance for Idaho code jurisdictions
and other industry professionals, and
-- Consistency with code interpretations, installations and enforcement techniques in the field

Funding for the program is being provided by the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance. The circuit rider position is under the management of the Circuit Rider Oversight Board which operates within IDABO.
